Fraternities and sororities enhance student’s lives by providing educational and social opportunities to students during their collegiate experience. The UT Fraternity and Sorority Life community consists of a diverse group of men and women from all over the country and world. Fraternities and sororities at UT offer areas of academic achievement, community service, philanthropy, leadership, diversity and inclusion and campus involvement. Building lifelong friendships through collaborative and meaningful relationships is a key component to the fraternal experience at UT.

History at UT
Fraternities and sororities are an integral part of campus life and have been around since the birth of our nation. The first Greek-letter organization was formed at the College of William and Mary in 1776, and since then many other Greek-letter organizations have formed. Fraternities and sororities are active on over 800 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Greek-letter organizations have been a part of the UT campus community since 1933 where they started as local organizations and literacy clubs. In 1952, UT welcomed its first nationally recognized social sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. A year later, the community welcomed its first nationally recognized social fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. Since that time, many nationally recognized social fraternities and sororities have made UT their home. We celebrate 1952 as the year the Fraternity and Sorority Life community was founded at The University of Tampa.

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life strives to enhance the quality of student life at The University of Tampa by educating and empowering students through creating an inclusive environment, educating with social responsibility at the core, cultivating continued partnerships, and developing leadership skills in alignment with the Spartan Ready® Competencies.

Fraternity & Sorority Life will set the standard of a Spartan Ready® culture through leadership development, creating a sense of belonging for all students, and fostering the development of holistic members for life beyond their collegiate experience.

Involvement in The University of Tampa fraternity and sorority community aligns with the following values:
- Inclusion: Provides students with opportunities to learn from a wide range of individuals, develop relationships with peers of different backgrounds and increase their overall intercultural awareness.
- Integrity: Requires an understanding of the connection between individual, organizational and global accountability and an expectation of congruence between statements and actions.
- Leadership: Fosters opportunities for personal growth and development as students learn to work as a team, understand group dynamics, and identify their personal strengths and communication strategies to effectively lead an organization.
